In Missouri, HealthCare.gov offers plans from four insurers: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (BCBS-KC), Anthem, Cigna and Humana. But, most counties are covered by only one of those companies. BCBS-KC has announced it will exit Missouri’s marketplace at the end of 2017, and Anthem is considering leaving as well. Centene announced it will enter the market, but has not said where.
If no other insurers come in to Missouri, 25 counties will be left without an insurer.
Anthem is leaving the Ohio market and is still deliberating on Missouri. If it also exits and no other insurers come in, most Missouri counties will be without a single insurer in the marketplace.
