YTD: Violent crime continues to drop inside the ‘Hayden Rectangle’

One of the aims of the ‘Hayden Rectangle’, implemented in 2018, was to reduce violent crime. Looking at violent crimes reported between January and May, crime decreased both inside and outside the rectangle between 2017 and 2018. But so far in 2019, violent crime outside the rectangle has increased, while violent crime inside the rectangle has continued to decrease.

Notes

“Violent crime” includes homicide, all robbery and aggravated assault using a firearm. Crimes include those reported to have occurred between January and May of each year. Only crimes with geographical coordinates were counted. See our methodology.
