Few local laws prohibit employment discrimination against LGBTQ people

St. Louis is among just seven Missouri cities that have passed ordinances that list gender identity and sexuality as protected categories in private workplaces. That's according to the Movement Advancement Project, a nonprofit think tank that tracks nondiscrimination laws nationwide. St. Louis County prohibits anti-LGBTQ discrimination against public but not private employees. Unincorporated Jackson County, near Kansas City, prohibits such discrimination at all workplaces.

Notes

Map only indicates cities and counties that have LGBTQ-specific nondiscrimination laws for all workplaces, both public and private. Olivette, Creve Coeur and Clayton are among the Missouri cities that have laws covering some but not all workplaces.
